August Meeting Notes
So finally got power back Sunday evening!! Below is Eve's wonderfully written email that I'm using for our post. I'm sorry I missed the meeting; life has been crazy even with power!!
Well, we had another Zoom meeting this month! Everyone agrees that they miss meeting in person, but this is getting more familiar for us all. I am doing the "secretary" work this month for Sue Hushin, who was unable to attend. Here are the highlights of this month's meeting: We are all feeling a little lost and uninspired during these difficult times. Not many of us have been doing any metal clay work, but a few have. Josh, who is inspired by working with leaves, is having great success! He has sold 5 pairs of his leaf earrings. He is also making pendants. And he completed a Camp PMC course, which he enjoyed. Laura did Camp PMC earlier this year and felt it was a good program, too. Amy has been working on a "plunger" pendant in her signature style, which we all loved. She is giving it a rose-gold overlay. She's been having some trouble with the consistency of the rose gold for making a paste, and is thinking about trying PMC Aqua to see if that helps. Some of us have been working on other types of art to keep creative during lockdown. Bettina is working on the Wee Fairie Village project. She has a structure under way that she is building out of metal mesh and papier mache. She is envisioning adding sea-glass and other elements and creating a garden around it. Ellie is contemplating getting back into sewing and is thinking of a blouse project. Maybe some metal clay buttons? Ilene recommended MKM Pottery Tools for texture rollers. She found some inspiring You Tube videos using these tools. I have been reading Metalwerx's newsletters and found their recommendation for Lucy Walker Jewelry for video lessons. I decided to try one of her workshops for a summer challenge for myself. I made a ring of sterling silver, with three stones set in 14k hammered bezels. The stones are white sapphire and amethyst. I was proud of how it turned out because at one point I chipped one of the stones, but then got up the nerve to completely smash it out of the setting and start over. And it worked! Phew!
We have three August birthdays coming up-- Happy Birthday to Ellie, Michal, and Ilene! Enjoy in good health!
Our September meeting is scheduled for the 13th. I think it will be another Zoom meeting, but what are we going to do.
